Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle, holistic method of complementing the body’s natural healing processes. Using a light touch (no greater than 5 grams or about the weight of a nickel coin), the practitioner works with the craniosacral system in the body – essentially the bones, nerves, fluids and connective tissues protecting the brain and spinal cord – to balance, release restrictions and improve central nervous system functioning.
This method is considered preventive for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and is also effective for a wide range of issues including:
- Migraine Headaches
- Chronic Neck and Back Pain
- Motor-Coordination Impairments
- Colic
- Autism
- Central Nervous System Disorders
- Orthopedic Problems
- Traumatic Brain and Spinal Cord Injuries
- Scoliosis
- Infantile Disorders
- Learning Disabilities
- Chronic Fatigue
- Emotional Difficulties
- Stress and Tension-Related Problems
- Fibromyalgia and other Connective-Tissue Disorders
- Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome (TMJ)
- Neurovascular or Immune Disorders
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
- Post-Surgical Dysfunction
What to Expect During a Session
Craniosacral therapy is performed on a stationary massage table with the client fully clothed. The practitioner will touch the client lightly on different places on or around the head, neck, back, hips, legs or arms. The client may or may not feel anything as the practitioner evaluates and corrects the cranial rhythm and restrictions. Often clients are deeply relaxed. This form of therapy is safe for all ages. Sessions typically last for 60 minutes and may be incorporated with other types of body work (massage, acupressure) and/or energy work, depending on your needs.
