Naturopathic Medicine
This form of medicine is a complete and coordinated approach to health care. It is an inclusive healing system that combines conventional medical training with natural therapies and physical techniques in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease. It uses naturally occurring substances and establishes therapies to stimulate the body’s own immune and healing properties. Its fundamental principle is to find the root cause of a disease, rather than simply treating the symptoms. In doing so, the psychological and spiritual, as well as physical elements of disease are all considered, in the pursuit of treating the whole person. Thus, treatment plans are individualized to the patient’s own needs. The following therapies may be implemented during treatment:
- Acupuncture
- Clinical Nutrition
- Homeopathy
- Herbal Medicine
- Counseling and Stress Management
- Bodywork
The foundation of healing is based on five distinguishing principles
First, to do no harm
Implement treatments that use medicinal methods in combination with substances that minimize the risk of harmful side effects for ensuring proper care and prevention.
To co-operate with the healing powers of nature
Create treatment programs that enable the body to heal itself through supportive therapy. Obstacles to healing and recovery are removed to facilitate this self-healing process.
To address the fundamental causes of disease
Identify the underlying cause of disease rather than simply suppressing the symptoms.
To heal the whole person through individualized treatment
Treat each patient individually, taking into consideration the physical, mental/emotional, environmental, hereditary and social factors that may contribute to the patient’s current health status.
To teach the principles of healthy living and preventive medicine
Through nutritional and lifestyle counseling, focus is placed on the prevention of disease.
