Reflexology

Reflexology is a complementary therapy that works on the feet or hands enabling the body to heal the whole person and not just the prevailing symptoms. Following illness, injury or disease, it is in a state of “imbalance”, and vital energy pathways are blocked, preventing the body from functioning effectively. Reflexology can be used to restore and maintain the body’s natural equilibrium and encourage healing.

A Reflexologist uses hands only to apply pressure to the feet. For each person the application and the effect of the therapy are unique. Sensitive, trained hands can detect tiny deposits and imbalances in the feet, and by working on these points the Reflexologist can release blockages and restore the free flow of energy to the whole body. Tensions are eased and circulated and elimination is improved. This gentle therapy encourages the body to heal itself, often counteracting a lifetime of misuse.

Reflexology Can Help:

Stress related conditions:Migraine, headaches, insomnia panic attacks, high blood pressure, depression, and anxiety
Conditions of the Digestive System:Colitis, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome
Hormonal conditions:PMS, hot flashes, menopausal symptoms
Common medical complaints:Asthma, sinusitis, sciatica, bladder infections, general aches and pains in the neck, back and shoulder

What should I expect on my first visit?

When you arrive at the clinic you will be asked to fill out a health history and consent form. All information is kept private and confidential. A full medical history and foot assessment are performed on the first visit. This allows the practitioner a holistic view of your overall health and will help determine the appropriate treatment plan for your individual needs. The method applied by the therapist is a gentle acupressure motion to the feet, following a meridian system, which correspond to the appropriate areas of the body. Most people need 5-7 weekly treatments (depending on the condition being treated) to receive a complete self-healing response and then less frequent treatments (monthly) to maintain balance and promote homeostasis. One treatment lasts 45 minutes.

There are short-term and long-term effects of Reflexology.
The effects the treatment has on the body are:

  • Release of toxins, mental and physical
  • Increase in circulation of blood and lymph
  • Relaxation of tense muscles
  • Ability to deep breathe
  • Over- or under-active areas of the body to act normally
  • Increase in body awareness
  • Calming of the mind

Long-term effects:

The overall long-term effects are relaxation, balance and a feeling of wellbeing. The steps to this may be felt at the first treatment, or it may need several treatments for changes to be made. The main ones that people will notice are:

  • Improved sleeping patterns
  • Coping better with stressful situations
  • More energy
  • Increase in body awareness
  • Strong immune system
  • Constant homeostasis in the body
  • Balance in the body system
